Bailey runs its own groundwater system and its own sewer plant, and most of its homes were built before 1980. Plumber Raleigh NC is a free referral line, not a plumbing company. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Bailey.

Plumbing services in Bailey
Bailey, Nash County
Bailey is a very small town in Nash County, about 29 miles east of Raleigh in a straight line and part of the Rocky Mount metro. It covers about 0.7 square miles and had around 570 residents in 2020. US 264 Business runs through town as Dean Street, US 264A passes nearby, and the Country Doctor Museum, founded in 1967, is the best-known stop. The Morgan School was added to the National Register in 2006.
Some of the oldest houses in the region
The median home in Bailey was built in 1955, and about 80% predate 1980. Those numbers come from a small sample of roughly 239 housing units, so treat them as approximate, but the picture is clear: many houses here have older supply piping, cast iron or clay drain lines, and fixtures that have been patched more than once. Repiping, drain repairs and valve replacements come up more often than in a newer suburb.
Town water from wells
The Town of Bailey owns its water system, which draws from groundwater wells under a state-approved wellhead protection plan. We didn't find a posted water quality report, so ask the Town for one if you want the details. Not every nearby home is on it: in 2024 Bailey received $750,000 from a state grant round to extend water and sewer to areas inside and near town limits that have little or no service. That suggests some homes still rely on private wells. Nash County well testing found manganese above the EPA health advisory in about 29% of tested wells and iron above it in about 21%.
A sewer plant with limits
Bailey treats its own wastewater at a town-owned plant. North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality placed that plant under a sewer moratorium in July 2003, and a 2024 Rocky Mount Telegram report described it as ongoing. In practical terms, new sewer connections are restricted, so if you're planning an addition or a new connection, check with the Town before you design around it. A 2021 project replaced about 1,100 feet of gravity sewer, four manholes and 14 sewer services.
Permits and heating fuel
Nash County Planning and Inspections handles building permits in the county, with plumbing as a separate trade permit; a town zoning permit comes first inside town jurisdiction. We couldn't confirm this from a Bailey town page, so a quick call to the county office is wise.
Piped gas is rare: only about 2% of homes in ZIP 27807 heat with utility gas, about 21% use propane and most use electricity. Piedmont Natural Gas serves Nash County where lines exist. If you smell gas or propane, leave the house and call 911 or Piedmont at 800-752-7504 from outside.
When you call
Mention whether you're on town water and sewer or a private well, and how old the house is if you know. You'll be connected with an independent local plumber, and the appointment and pricing are between you and them.
